If you’re new to Adobe Lightroom, a few basic tools can go a long way in helping you organize and edit your photos. Our Director of Graphic Design & Digital Media, Melissa DeLeon, has created a helpful tutorial video on Adobe Lightroom, where she shares a few of her go-to photo editing tips for getting started.

Start by Getting Organized

The first thing Melissa recommends is creating an album to keep your photos organized. Simply create a new album, give it a name, and start adding your photos. If you’re uploading several photos at once, there’s an easy shortcut: click the first photo, hold Shift, and click the last photo you want to select. Lightroom will select everything in between, allowing you to add multiple photos at once.

Focus on the Basic Editing Tools

Once your photos are uploaded, it’s time to start editing. Melissa typically focuses on adjustments like highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, and exposure. From there, you can fine-tune the image with tools like color balance, clarity, vibrance, and curves until you get the look you want.

Save Time with Batch Editing

One helpful Lightroom feature is batch editing. If you like the edits you’ve made to one photo, you can copy those settings and paste them onto other photos. Simply right-click the edited photo, select Copy, and then paste those settings onto another image. You can also use keyboard shortcuts to make the process even faster.

Export Your Finished Photos

Once all of your photos look the way you want, it’s time to export them. This is where you can choose the image quality, size, file type, and file name before saving them to your preferred folder.

And that’s it! These are just a few basic Lightroom tips that can help make organizing and editing your photos a little easier.
